Fake News: Year 1803

“Our newspapers, for the most part, present only the caricatures of disaffected minds.  Indeed, the abuses of the freedom of the press here have been carried to a length never before known or borne by any civilized nation.”

by Thomas Jefferson (in letter to M. Pictet, year 1803)

president

So there you have it folks!  Fake news going all the way back to 1803 when our country was first founded.  I wonder what Jefferson would say today!

Jefferson was also concerned about censorship by the government.  I wonder how he would feel about censorship by big corporations which supply media platforms.
